Houston Astros 50th Anniversaray to Wear Old 45’s Jersey
If you remember a long time ago, the Houston Astros were called the Houston Colt 45’s for one season and featured a smoking single action revolver in their logo. Well, after a time it was considered politically incorrect and they changed to a more “peaceful” mascot than the old Peacemaker.
Well, this coming season, the Astros want to celebrate their 50th year anniversary by wearing those old 1962 uniforms but the league office tried to put the hammer down. They begged the Astros to alter the logo to hide the gun from the public but after much wrangling, honest-to-history folk won out over the gun censors.
What a travesty that we cannot any longer celebrate what some call “the gun that won the west” in public without someone throwing a whiny hissy fit. What a travesty that the old Peacemaker is now looked at from many on high as an implement of evil. If that is the case, I do not ever want to see an officer of the law showing his piece in public.
At least we will get to see those cool old uni’s in action again. This is something that the league for certain would not allow on a full tame basis. I hope they wear them revolvers quite a bit this season and show Americans what liberty is all about.
By the way, the article linked here calls it a pistol but the definition of a pistol does not fit a revolver–just one technical error I thought I would point out. Here is the full article: http://dailycaller.com/2012/03/10/mlb-relents-astros-to-keep-pistol-on-throwback-jersey/ .
