The University of Oklahoma had it first day of fall practices today. The Sooners began practice at about 6:45 this morning to beat the blunt of the heat. Temperatures over most the the state climbed well into the 100s’ today and OU prepared for that by starting early and taking a few extra precautions to monitor player health during the workouts.
Other than that, Bob Stoops said it was a good first day of practice. He hasn’t avoided the talk about high expectation ad he seems primed for a serious run at another national championship. Could this be the year for Big Game Bob to return to his former form?
The Woes of Texas
As if Texas hasn’t had its share of woes in their defections and shakeups in the coaching staff and ineffectiveness at the quarterback position, Texas’ wide reciever Malcolm Williams quits football. This will surely leave Texas thinner at the wideout position this year and hurt them in their bid to establish some kind of passing game.
Sooners Are Number 1!
Okay, so there are no BCS trophies awarded for preseason number 1 but it is interesting that the Sooners start the season as the number one ranked team in the coaches’ poll. Surprisingly they received an overwhelming 42 of the 59 votes. Alabama finished second and Oregon third. LSU and Florida State round out the top 5. Look for that second game to be huge when OU travels to FSU for a possible 1 vs. 5 matchup.
Of note, OSU is ranked 8 and Texas, well 24 so break out the violins. It seems the coaches aren’t having a lot of respect for the Longhorns this year after the pathetic performances they reeled out last year.
It is going to be one interesting year.
